I've been finding myself explaining to a few people recently my reasoning behind creating Freak Show. I've been forum role-playing for well over ten years and have played Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, an original vamp/lycan forum, Marvel, and others, but I have to say that I miss the days when I was first starting out on a couple of different non-canon Harry Potter-esque sites.
Now Freak Show isn't set in Potterverse, obviously, but that's not the point. What I miss about those early sites isn't necessarily the world of Hogwarts (there are plenty of HP forums out there), but rather the laid-back style of these forums. It wasn't about who had the most beautiful signature or who could type out the most lengthy posts. There were no 1000+ word requirements. It was just about meeting other people who liked to do what you do... celebrate a certain fandom and write.
This doesn't mean that we discourage novel-like posts or beautiful graphics. By all means, if you have the talent and the inspiration, go for it. It also doesn't mean that we think one-liner posts are okay. But this is a role-playing community and we want it to be a place you can come to relax, chat with new friends in the c-box, and hopefully feel inspired to do some writing. It shouldn't feel like work. We want you to be able to come here and feel at home, make a character, do some role-playing and become a part of our growing family.
